Does your home use well water?
If so, it’s important to understand how to periodically treat and test the water you’re using.
At Guardian Property Solutions, we’ve bought and sold many properties that use well water in the more rural parts of the Philly Suburbs and there are a few things that people should be aware of.
Here’s what one should keep in mind…
Well Water Comes From The Ground — Dead simple, well water comes straight from an aquifer in the ground. This means it’s untreated when it reaches home and it’s only as clean as it was when it was pulled from the ground.
Well Water is Hard — Well water is usually hard because it dissolves a lot of minerals like calcium and magnesium in the soil. Hard water can react with certain cleaning products, cause soap build-up, and wear down fixtures and appliances. So, it’s important to install a water softener if you’re on well water.
Well Water Can Stink — Because it comes from the ground, well water might smell bad and it also might stain appliances due to high amounts of iron. Installing a special iron filtration system will save on stains and improve the taste of the well water.
Well Water Can Become Contaminated — Obviously, well water can become contaminated. And that’s why it’s important to test the water at least once per year and ALWAYS use a high-quality filtration system before drinking the water. The most effective method is reverse osmosis.
Hope that helps!
